1. Art is work of a special sort - a stimulus made for the purpose of causing a perception. It operates in a tremendous range, from the decoration of murderous, junk products to the presentation of life-enhancing, life-saving and soul-saving ideas. Whether art is dead is of minor importance. If it is dead it is still influential and will undoubtedly reappear in reincarnated form. Art that looks alive can very possibly be dead. This describes almost all of contemporary art.
2. For an example of art I give you this- the world's shortest literary artwork:
DAOROAD
I joined the Chinese word for road, "Dao" to its English translation "Road," creating a special work of art that is also a PALINDROME (something that reads the same way forward and backward.) This is a unique marriage of deep words from two languages. To a child I would say "Look! I put these two things together and they look the same from both ends!"
