I will say that art is already dead by just focusing about what said arthur danto in his book 'after art age'.
Yes the history spreaded out by collapsing any narration focusing on nation, monarchy and borders.
Art was always dealing with this narration, by accompgnying it, or fighting it (avant garde) or facing it.
Now we are in a age of global space with time based on 24h00 instant moving step by step from secondes to secondes.
In this context there is no narration based on a timeline in a specific space, nation or specific civilization context. This narration has disapeared that's why every philosopher and historian are talking about 'the end of history'.
In this context art was defined by position i described a few lines before. Now this definition is collapsing just because art definition based on interaction with history narration has disapeared:
That's why we can say that we are after the art age, in a global art environment where every daily phenomenon is art based on phenomenology.
So we may talk today about more about cultural behaviour system than any stupid poeple defining themselves as genius disconnected from what it's going on around them ;-)
by being out of global society, by not having any financial interaction with their environment, by not having any politic interaction with their environment, by not having any interactions with true cultural pehnomenon in global society (how much poeple know them).

That's why I'm rather saying that we are out of art and after the art !
and as pavu said:

it is not important to be avant garde or arriere garde but be in garde! 'en garde'
