We can't facilitate the influx of mp3s sent here. we keep going way over ourbandwidth limits. We realize that a lot of you have had your mp3 files bounced back because of this.
If you have to send mp3 files send 'em to:webmaster@sonicyouth.com (put "mp3 for protest-records.com" in your subjectheader) anyone and everyone is invited - famous, unknown, living or dead, friend,
foe, and all inbetween. the song(s) don't have to be exclusive - the more people you can get to hear it the better.
one song will suffice -- if you have more than one that's fine but please don't ask us to upload an entire album or to go to your mp3 site and choose from a collection. no time.
giving us the simple details of: artist(s) name, track title, url - really helps and expediates the process. the less navigation to find your tracks the better.
we won't add a song unless you ask us to. if you send a link to a song with out asking for it to be on this site we can't assume the intention is for it to be included. it seems some emails are for us just to check out an artists
site of songs in solidarity.
we don't ave the room to add videos -- we are thinking of adding the song lyrics though. will keep you updated on that.please don't add this email adress to any promo list, subscriber list, etc.
Some of you claim to be computer-challenged and have asked for an "office address" to send mp3s - there is none - at least not yet. we will attempt to put up a How To Download primer.
We have been sent links to other artists sites in order for us to add their anti-war tracks (e.g.: meshell ndegeocello, green day, zach de la rocha + dj shadow, rem etc.) -- we won't do this unless the artists themselves give us
permission.
We are not adding anyone's info, link, address, record label affiliation, songwriting credit, publishing etc. - it's just your name and song -- pure and simple -- no promo - no money. We're not even retaining the info for our files so when someone has the great idea to maybe capitalize on this archive in the future there won't be any hard data. it's magic and it's direct action/expression.As far as requests for interviews. I don't have the time at all to do this - though I did one or two already upon the site's launch -- chris may do some
but that’s up to him..plus I'm not really into the promo of it as it sheds too much profile on me as a member of sonic youth and it becomes a bit of a conflict of interest.
Chris and I will put up installments of our "thoughts" about what we're learning from doing this site. This may well expand into a forum as dialogue and debate is rampant. We've had over 2 million hits and scores of email. 99 % positive and 1 % negative. There's no one working on it but us - it's a little bit overwhelming as you may imagine. We can't put up every song solicited for various reasons, some technical, some personal.Keep on spreading the news of truth, love, happiness and intelligence. there's a general fatigue going on w/ protest, a sense of devaluation...protest is 1st and best in keeping informed -- share and forward all pertinent texts towards progressive humanitarianism. Fuck war.
